Cecilia Colomé was born and grew up in Mérida, the capital of the state of Yucatán in México.
Cecilia started her professional training as a visual artist at the age of 12 with the late painter Amalia Casado, and evening classes at Escuela de Bellas Artes in Mérida.
After graduating from high school, Cecilia moved to Mexico City to attend Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). While learning about math and physics there, she became a student of intaglio and etching of the late engraving master Juan José Beltrán in his magical studio “Los Tres Patios” in the colonia Guerrero, Distrito Federal.
Cecilia moved to Austin, Texas, to go to graduate school. She took courses in the astronomy and the art departments at University of Texas-Austin, where she did research, and wrote papers and a thesis. Cecilia received a PhD, daughter, dog, and cat – in that order,
Cecilia’s primary medium is oil on canvas. She also works with gouache, acrylics, etching plates, and mosaics.
